Featured app rewards explained
Featured app rewards are one of the channels through which new Canton Coin enters circulation. Applications that achieve featured status on the Global Synchronizer earn minted CC in proportion to the activity they generate. The mechanism turns the network's issuance schedule into a growth incentive: builders are paid by the protocol for bringing real usage.
The logic mirrors the network's other reward streams. Super validators earn CC for operating the Global Synchronizer, validators earn it for validating activity, and featured applications earn it for driving traffic. All three shares come from the same governed minting schedule, and their relative weights are set through the network's public governance process, so the split can evolve by ratified proposal.
Featured status itself is granted under the Global Synchronizer's governance rather than claimed unilaterally, which keeps the reward stream tied to applications the network's operators recognize. For the Canton ecosystem, the design means an application can have a protocol-level revenue stream alongside whatever fees it charges its own users, an arrangement few other public networks offer their builders.
